Bob Regan 1928-2022: Long time Washington swimming pioneer, supporter, and ambassador Bob Regan has passed.

Bob was a giant in the world of aquatics and competitive swimming in Washington. He started in 1946 at UW as a freshman swimmer, upon graduation coached the Naval Training Center Swim Team in San Diego, and eventually made his way back to Kirkland with his young family. Soon thereafter, he and two other former Husky swimmers, Bob Miller and John Tallman, founded the Olympic Swim Schools, Cascade Swim Club, and Lake Washington Swim Club (later Chinook Swim Club). Through his years as Aquatics Section Chief for King County, he was responsible for running the 18 King County Forward Thrust pools built in the early 1970s as well as 10 swimming beaches. Finally, Bob oversaw the design and construction of King County Aquatics Center and helped bring the 1990 Goodwill Games to the new facility. For decades Bob was a key organizer or participant in meets big and small in western Washington.

Bob’s good nature, humor and kindness were his calling card. His memory is truly a blessing.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Kirkland, WA on Friday, March 4 at 1:30pm. A reception will be held immediately following at the Bellevue Club, Bellevue, WA. See also https://www.flintofts.com/obituaries/Robert-Louis-Regan?obId=23988620#/celebrationWall
