PNA Clubs/Groups Information & Links

There are multiple Clubs (plus the “unattached club” UC36) currently registered under PNA. Find the most recent registration information at Pacific Northwest LMSC Club Registration. Club and Workout Group registration brings certain USMS benefits, including a no-cost banner (on request) and appearance in the USMS Club Finder.

Puget Sound Masters (PSM) is the Regional Club for PNA and is the only club in PNA that has associated Workout Groups. PSM coordinates the Fall SCM meet each year in addition to actively supporting PSM swimmmers attending USMS Spring Nationals by providing coaches, relay coordination, and canopy shelters.

Blue Wave Aquatics (BWAQ) is the PNA club that hosts the annual PNA Champs meet at the King County Aquatic Center. BWAQ also hosts the Last Splash of Summer open water swimming event.

The other clubs comprising PNA are the Harbor Aquatics Club (HA), Vashon Island Rockfins (ROCK), Lake Stevens Masters Club (LSMC), Mercer Island Beach Club, Ohana Swim Team, and the University Place Aquatics Club.

For the latest information on all registered Clubs and Workout Groups, including locations, workout times, and member benefits, go to the USMS Club Finder.

Clubs and Club Development

The PNA LMSC (Pacific Northwest Association of Masters Swimmers Local Masters Swimming Committee) currently (2018) has six clubs registered nationally with USMS. If you compete in a national or international event, you will enter it as a member of the club you registered with (not PNA), which allows you to also participate in relays. If you registered with PNA as unattached, however, you will compete as an individual but cannot swim on relays at the event.

If you want to create and register a new Club within PNA for competition at the national level, please read and follow the information found on our Registration page. If you’re not clear on the difference between a Club and a Workout Group, refer to the information found on our Info for New Members page.

By USMS definition, PNA’s primary club Puget Sound Masters (PSM) is a “Regional Club” (comprised of many workout groups throughout our geographical area) while the others such as BWAQ and ROCK are defined as “local clubs” for points-scoring purposes (see the USMS Rule Book article 104.5.6B for the distinction).

USMS requires that LMSCs and Clubs operate as separate entities (both functionally and financially) to comply as non-profits under IRS Section 501(c)(3). PNA (the LMSC) and PNA (the former Club) were among legacy entities affected. Accordingly, all former-PNA club members selected a new club name, elected new officers and approved new club Bylaws in September 2012. As a result the new club formed was Puget Sound Masters . The PSM Bylaws can be viewed here.
